Directing Your Steps

"A man's heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps."
(Proverbs 16:9, NKJV)

We often make plans for the future, as we should. Proper planning is good stewardship of our time. But things do not always happen the way we planned, no matter how well we plan. Ultimately, God controls what happens. This does not mean that we should not ask God to change things. We should bring our concerns to God and completely trust Him to act. But we must not expect God to conform to our plans. We must conform to His plans. Only God knows the future. We must get our direction from Him. We must recognize the events of this life as God's direction for us. We must prayerfully interpret and react to the events God brings into our lives according to the truth of God's word. Instead of fighting the events of this life, it is possible to use them as divine markers to guide us. A few important questions to ask: What is really going on? What does God's word say about these circumstances? What principles from Scripture apply to my situation? What is God teaching me through these events?

Look to God to direct your path.
